Pre and Post-waxing Dos and Don’ts for Perfect Results

Waxing works better than most hair removal solutions we see these days. It is because waxing pulls the hair entirely off the follicle, which results in less hair regrowth for weeks. Unlike the razor that only cuts the hair on the surface, waxing removes the hair from deep within. Other hair removal products may have side effects, like blackening of the skin, spots, and acne breakouts. You may even be allergic to certain products, thus making them inaccessible to you.

You should also note that after waxing, the hair that grows back is finer, and every time you wax, you get the same results. But here’s a catch. You should follow a pre and post-wax care routine religiously to leverage all the benefits of waxing.

Dos and Don’ts of pre and post-waxing care

Before you take an appointment for waxing at a beauty salon in Liverpool or nearby areas, you should follow these hacks diligently to prevent making the most of your waxing endeavor.

What you should NOT do before waxing:

  • Do not wax a wounded or recovering area. Inspect your skin thoroughly before going for a wax. If you notice skin inflammations or even a minor wound, postpone your plan till it recovers completely.
  • Do not repeat the waxing procedure if the hair has not grown long enough. If the hair is too short, the wax may be unable to adhere to it. However, you should also not wait till the hair has grown excessively long. It will be quite painful then.
  • Do not use products that contain retinol before waxing as these contain chemicals that leave the skin more prone to injuries and infection.

What you SHOULD do before waxing:

  • Exfoliate the skin the night before you have your waxing appointment at your favorite beauty salon in Wetherill Park or somewhere else.
  • Keep moisturising your skin every day for a week before waxing. A well-hydrated skin will give the best results.
  • If you are waxing the bikini region, make sure that it is clean. That will reduce the chances of infection, as these moist areas are more prone to bacterial and fungal infections.

What you should NOT do after waxing

  • Refrain from wearing tightly-fitted outfits and those with elastics, as these may cause irritation and itching on the waxed areas. Do it for a few days to let the skin heal naturally.
  • Prevent going out in the sun at least for 24 hours after waxing. Direct sunlight may cause tanning of the skin.
  • Do not scrub the skin roughly for at least a few days. Use a gentle scrubber while bathing. And avoid hot showers too.

What you SHOULD do after waxing

  • Apply a cold compress on the waxed areas. You can also rub ice cubes and cold sponges on the areas.
  • Apply post-depilatory lotions, as directed by the experts at your beauty salon in Fairfield. It helps remove the wax residues effectively, besides soothing the skin.
  • Do continue the exfoliation and moisturising regime without fail. Let your skin be for about four days post waxing and start exfoliating it regularly after. Oh and yes! Start moisturising after two days of waxing.
